  • Mission Moment: Parting Words From Chair Sara Oates

    In anticipation of my official term ending in late January 2025, I wanted to take a moment to reflect and give thanks to all who have made my five years as Board Chair one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

    In 2019 when I was appointed, it came sort of as a surprise to me, but being a fourth-generation Texan and a second-generation appraiser, it made perfect sense. I have been honored to serve both my state and my community.

    In anticipation of a new appointment, Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board Chair Sara Oates opened the Board’s November 15 meeting with some parting words before the expiration of her term:

    “Part of the reason why I do feel like it’s time for me to go because I think that with new leadership there is new energy, there are new, fresh eyes on things, and I think, for an oversight board, that’s important thing.”

  • Planned Building Electrical Outages to Affect Online Services

    Starting 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday, November 27 through Sunday, December 1, all systems, including the Online Licensing Services portal and the Posting System, will be down because of planned electrical outages at TALCB headquarters. Another planned outage that will affect online agency services is scheduled for Friday, December 20 at 6 p.m. through Monday, December 23.

    The Texas Appraiser Licensing & Certification Board (TALCB) met August 16 to consider adopting amendments to one rule and proposing amendments to eight others. The highlights also include an update on the new and continually improving Practical Applications of Real Estate Appraisal (PAREA) from the mouth of its only current provider, the Appraisal Institute (AI).

  • PAREA Grads Incoming: First 2 Are Texans

    The graduates are trickling in nine months after the first ever launch of the Practical Applications of Real Estate Appraisal (PAREA). It took off commanded by the Appraisal Institute (AI). Sticking the landing as the first person to complete PAREA is a stay-at-home dad in San Antonio named Chris Tindal (pictured, left).

    New and improved. The online Notebook provided by the Texas Appraiser Licensing & Certification Board to log appraisal experience is enhanced with features that will speed up application processing.

    Texas is a leader. This was one of the first discussion points during the May 10 meeting of the Texas Appraiser Licensing & Certification Board (TALCB). Its executive director informed the board of a recent industry conference staff attended where TALCB’s partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) was highlighted again.
